SALAZAR, BERNADETTE P. Backyard Hog Fattening at Galicia, Mendez Cavite: An Entrepreneurial Development Project. Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship Major in Animal Production. Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Natural Resources. <br/>The student aimed to gain knowledge, acquire actual experience, develop skills and earn profit from this backyard hog fattening project. The swine production project used four piglets that were purchased from Balagbag, Indang Cavite. The average initial weight of each piglet was 14.75 kg. The feeds were sourced from Shirley Roguel General Merchandize. They were fed three times a day and underwent restricted feeding. Hogs were marketed in Mendez Market. The bogs were sold at P130.00 per kg live weight. After 93 days of rearing, the hogs attained an average final weight of 87.50 kg. The total feed consumption of the hogs throughout the rearing period was 750 kg. This cons-isted of 150 kg of hog starter pellet and 600 kg of hog grower pellet. Each hog consumed 187.50 kg of feeds. The hogs attained an average daily gain of 782.26 g. The feed conversion efficiency was 2.24 in starter phase and 2.68 in grower phase and the average feed conversion efficiency was 2.58. The actual total production cost was P34,450.00. The total sales amounted to IN56650.00, resulting to a total net income of P11,199.25. The return on investment (ROI) was 32.5 %. <br/><br/> |
