Major Adviser: Professor Francisco T, Ramos.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>The study was undertaken among 200 household head farmers in four villages covered by the Maejo Institute of Agricultural Technology Social Laboratory in Chiangmai, Thailand. The objectives of the study were tos (1) describe socio economic characteristics of the farmers, (2) determine their level of socio-economic changes, (3) find out some of the problems encountered in the Social Laboratory, and (4) ascertain the relationship of Social Laboratory exposure level to the level of some socio+economic variables.<br/><br/>An interview schedule in Thai language was used to gather the data. Frequency counts, percentages, ranges, means and ratings were used to determine the farmer-respondents’ socio_economic characteristics. Chi-square test, Student's T-test and Siegel's Sign test were employed to evaluate the reliability of some indices, to determine the changes and relationship, and compare the differences, respectively.<br/><br/>The average age of the farmer-respondents was 43 years and 93.5 percent of them were males. Two percent had attended the secondary school level; 63.5 percent attended the primary school level; and 34.5 percent had no schooling at all. Their average length of residence in their present villages and average years in farming were 21 and 18 years, respectively.<br/><br/>Eighty-eight percent of the families were of the nuclear type with 2n average of 3 children and 5 people living in each household. Three hundred bahts and 100,000 bahts were their minimum and maximum prices of their dwelling with an average of 15,752 bahts. Their average size of farm and land-owned were 7 vais, Their average of annual net farm income was 12,930 bahts.<br/><br/>There were changes in their levels of agricultural practices adoption, family living practices, and community participation "before".<br/>
