Major Professor: Dr. Willie C. Depositario<br/><br/>Economic and communication variables which determine the knowledge, attitude and expectations of coconut farmers toward the agrarian reform program and describe the existing tenurial arrangements among coconut farms in Northern Samar,<br/><br/>The investigation was undertaken in Palapag, Northern Samar. Interviewed 148 coconut farmers in 20 barangays.<br/><br/>Frequency counts, percentages, means and product moment correlation were used to describe and analyze the data.<br/><br/>Almost all of the respondents were male, majority were Roman Catholics, married, attended formal school, majority were below 47 years and with an average farming experience of 19,46,<br/><br/>Their average farm size was 3,28 hectares; average annual income from coconut farming was P2,373; from other crops, 0935,14; from non-farm job, P1,629.48, Average annual income from all sources was reported at P5,001,45.<br/><br/>Majority of the respondent farmers were owner-operators. Almost all of the respondents had not attended any seminar or training pertaining to the agrarian reform program but were mostly members of the PTA and COCOFED. Most respondent-members were plain members of the organization. More members attended meetings of the assoctation “always" and "sometimes" than "oftentimes" and "nev He<br/><br/>Feansiotoe radio was the most accessible and frequently used broadcast media while comics the most accesstble and frequently used printed media. Transistor radio and fellow farmers were reported to be the most common source of information on agrarian reform.<br/><br/>More than one-half (1/2) of the respondents obtained scores less than the average on the knowledge aspect and were generally "favorable" in attitude towards the agrarian reform program. The respondents were generally "positive" in expecting benefits from the program. More than one-half (1/2) of the tenants and part- owners generally relied upon their landowners for informations on<br/><br/><br/>
