DISYABUTRA, DANAI University of the Philippines at Los Banos, February 1978. Occupations, Income and Migration of the Rural Lower Secondary School Graduates in the Educational Region V, Thailand. Major Professor: Dr. Arsenio O. Gagni.<br/>The major purpose of this study was to find out the factors associated with the occupation, income, and migration pattern of the rural lower secondary school graduates in Thailand<br/>The respondents were 498 graduates of Maw Saw 3 (Grade 10) from 29 schools in the six provinces of Educational Region V, for school years 1971—1975. The data were with the use of an interview schedule.<br/>The average age of the respondents was 19.9 years 0 Most<br/>Of them, were single and resided with their parents. Their Places of residence and places of work were prevalently in the rural sector 0 Most of the respondents were not children of farmers, and they belonged to the low socio—economic families. Financial problems, together with poor academic performance, had caused them to stop schooling 0 As a whole, the employed respondents were engaged in nonfarm occupations and had low income. The occupational subjects they took up and the occupational training they obtained were relevant to their current occupations. Some respondents desired to study further, especially in vocational schools, or to obtain additional occupational training 0<br/>It was found in the study that: (1) employment status was related to age, marital status, residence with parents, race of parents, length of time away from school, occupational subjects taken up, and occupational training taken up; (2) the kind of occupation the graduates were engaged in wag related to sex, residence with parents, fathers' educational attainment, parents' occupation, parents income, and length of time away from school; (3) income was associated with sex 9 age, marital status, residence with parents, mothers' educational attainment, parents? income, and length of time away from school; (4) migration pattern was related to marital status, residence with parents 9 and mothers? occupation; (5) migration pattern was related to the kind of occupation and income; (6) income aspiration was related to current income; and (7) migration propensity was related to current occupation, current income and migration pattern. |
