"Growth and Yield of Three Flint Corn Cultivars as Affected by Population Density During Dry Season of Planting. Prof- Adriano G .Romen, Adviser.<br/>This study was conducted in a farmer" s field at Buna Lejos, Indang, Cavite from October to December 1998. The study aimed to evaluate the growth and yield performance of flint corn as affected by population density.<br/>The field measuring approximately 500 square meters was prepared thoroughly using a native plow. The study was laid out following a 3 x 4 factorial experiment in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The two factors tested were variety and population density.<br/>The parameters evaluated were average plant height at maturity, weight of 100 seeds, weight of shelled corn per plot and computed yield per hectare.<br/>Analysis of variance, (ANOVA) revealed significant differences among the treatments and population densities. Results showed that population density of 80, 000 plant per hectare with 25 x 50 cm distance of planting significantly increased the weight of 100 seeds, computed yield per hectare and average height of plant at maturity. On the other hand, Variety 2 (Hybrid 911) significantly showed superiority in grain production in terms of weight of shelled corn per plot and yield per hectare.<br/> |
