Summary, etc. DE VILLA, MARILOU. DOMINE, MARY CLARIZE H., PANDO, MARCELO A. A Profitability Analysis of Enterprise Development Projects in Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Financial Management, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018. Adviser: Ms. Mailah M. Ulep.
The study was conducted to determine the profitability of the Enterprise Development Projects in the Cavite State University System. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the profile of Enterprise Development Projects; determine a significant difference in the level of profitability of the projects when grouped according to business profile; compare the year on year performance of the EDPs and determine the problems encountered by the EDP proponents.
The study covered four campuses including Indang, Imus, Rosario and Naic. A total of 143 Enterprise Development Projects were reviewed.
Data were analyzed using frequency count, percentage, range, mean and rank. Financial statements and initial capital breakdown were used to determine the profitability ratios and working capital utilization of the EDPs. ANOVA was used to determine the significant differences among the level of profitability when grouped according to business profiles.
The study revealed that most of the Enterprise Development Projects were formed as a partnership with two to four entrepreneurs operating for three months. On the nature of business, more than three fourths of the Enterprise Development Projects were food related business. Majority of the EDPs operated their business outside the campus. The entrepreneurs' initial capital ranges from P25, 001 to P35, 000 mostly financed by 102 entrepreneurs. On the level of profitability, 72 out of 143 EDPs achieved average level based on GPM within the range 40.77 to 68.98; 66 out of 143 EDPs was in the low level based on NPM; 130 out of 143 EDPs achieved low level based on ROI; 121 EDPs belonged in the low level of profitability based on ROA; 77 EDPs was in low level of profitability based on OPM; and based on ROE, 137 EDPs belonged also on the low level of profitability.
The test of relationship between the business profile and profitability indicated that there was a significant difference among the six profitability ratios in every campus. There was a significant difference between the nature of the business and NPM; number of proponents with NPM, ROI, and OPM; location of the business with ROI, ROA, ROE and NPM; initial capital with ROI, and the working capital utilization with the GPM. All other business profile characteristics did not have any significant difference with any of the six profitability ratios.
On the year on year performance of the Enterprise Development Projects, year 2013 had the highest gross profit margin with a mean of 47.5147; the highest net profit margin was achieved in the year 2015 with the mean of 26.2821; highest return on invested capital was experienced in 2015; return on assets has its highest average (37.1539) in 2015; highest operating profit margin was reached in 2013; and highest average return on equity (43.0284) in 2015.
Majority of the EDP proponents in Naic, Indang, Rosario and Imus campus struggled on internal factors of the business.
