Del Mundo. <br/>The study, Perceived Effects of Using Electronic Cigarette among students of Cavite State University, was conducted generally to solicit the perceived effects of electronic cigarette. Specifically, it aimed to determine the demographic profile of the participants as to their age, sex, civil status, monthly family income, type of ownership, number of months using electronic cigarette and number of times a day in using electronic cigarette; determine perceived effects of using electronic cigarette among students; identify the level of utilization of electronic cigarette among the participants; determine if there is a significant relationship between the participant's socio-demographic profile and perceived effects of using electronic cigarette among students; determine if there is significant the relationship between the participant's socio-demographic profile and level of utilization of electronic cigarette; and determine if there is a significant relationship between the participant's perceived effects of using electronic cigarette and its level of utilization_ <br/>A survey questionnaire was prepared, distributed, and retrieved from the 387 students enrolled in Cavite State University. Participants of the study came from the College of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Natural Resources, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Criminal Justice, College of Economics, Management and Development Studies, College of Education, College of Engineering and Information Technology, College of Nursing, College of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation and College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science. Furthermore, descriptive method was used to describe the demographic profile of the students. Statistical tool used in the data gathered were frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation and likelihood ratio test. Result of the study indicates that the majority of the students enrolled in the Cavite State University belonged to the stage of late adolescents group of 19-21 years old, male, earned a monthly family income ranging from 20,001 and up. There is a higher percentage on owned electronic cigarette among students. It means that a higher number of students can afford to have an electronic cigarette. Most of the respondents were already using electronic cigarette for at least 6 months, and at least six times a day. The results revealed that in terms of physical manifestations, the participants moderately perceived symptoms such as dry mouth, dry throat, mouth sores, an d throat irritation being experienced by vape users. And the least symptom was coughing while vaping. In terms of psychosocial manifestation, the participants highly perceived to have happy moods, increase concentration, and good memory, and felt that their participation in social gathering was important and having more interaction to their friends. Scored as the least symptom of the psychosocial manifestation On the other hand, the participants have moderately perceived that they wanted to seek the attention of others. Moreover, in terms of well-being, the participants have highly perceived the following; felt contented with themselves when vaping, believe in their capabilities as vape user, felt important to their friends, felt changes in their body while vaping, felt confident as vape user, felt good while vaping, can control their temper while vaping, have freedom of choice as vape user, and felt energize while vaping. On the other hand, the participants moderately perceived that they feel relaxed while vaping. usually consumed one-three mg/ml per day which indicates as low level of utilization. There was high level of utilization in terms of time, particularly during afternoon and late afternoon. Home and in a vape shop were the places the participants highly utilized for vaping and can relax during their usual activities. With regards t o the significant relationships, socio-demographic profile has a significant relationship with their perceived physical effects particularly years/months of electronic cigarette use, and number of times of electronic cigarette use with dry mouth, dry throat, mouth sores, throat irritation, were experienced by the participants while vaping. Significant relationships between socio-demographic profile and their perceived psychosocial effects in terms of monthly family income, and years/months of using electronic cigarette with their perceived effects of having happy moods, increase concentration, good memory, comfortable than usual, an d up to more interaction with their friends. <br/>Moreover, significant relationships were also established - between the socio-demographic profile specifically monthly income, years/months of using electronic cigarette, times of using electronic cigarette and their perceived effects in well-being as they felt contented with themselves when vaping, believed in their capabilities as vape user, and felt important to their friends, and other felt changes in their body while vaping. Significant relationships. Were also revealed between the participants' socio-demographic profile such as monthly family income, years/months in using electronic cigarette and number of times using electronic cigarette, and level of utilization according to three day electronic cigarette use recall which is 1-3 mg/nil a day. . A significant relationship was noted between monthly family income, years/months of using electronic cigarette, number times using electronic cigarette, and age, and level of utilization in terms of home and vape shop setting. There was a significant relationship between number of years/months and level of utilization based on usual activity such as relaxing. With regards the relationship between the participants' perceived physical effects of using electronic cigarette and its level of utilization in mg/ml, and usual activities. There was a significant relationship between perceived psychosocial effect and level of utilization in time, and perceived effect in well-being and level of utilization according to mg/ml.<br/> |
