Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Ms. Alyssa R. Eseque, Rpm. <br/>This research was conducted from August 2017 to May 2017 to determine the relationship of social acceptance and level of self-worth as perceived by people with physical disabilities in selected areas of Cavite. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the: 1) perceived level of social acceptance of people with physical disability in terms of (a) family, (b) friends, and (c) community; 2) the level of self-worth perceived by people with physical disability and 3) if there is a significant relationship between social acceptance and level of self-worth as perceived by people with physical disability. The study was supported by Carl Roger's Theory of Personality the Self-worth and Positive Regard and Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the esteem needs. Out of 2,510 population .of people with physical disabilities from 3 cities including General Trias, Dasmarinas City and Bacoor City Cavite; three hundred and forty five (345) both male and female with physical disabilities were included to be a participant based on the Slovin's Formula Sampling technique and descriptive-correlational research design for data gathering. The study used two sets of test namely; People with Disability Social Acceptance Scale that is composed of questions about family, friends and community and the People with Disability Self-Worth Scale to gather necessary data and information from the participants.<br/>Results showed that majority of the participants had obtained a very high social acceptance in terms of family, friends and community which means they are highly appreciated and accepted regardless of their disability. The majority of people with physical disability also obtained a very high level of self-worth. With the aid of Spearman's Rho the correlational coefficient of social acceptance in family and level of self-worth is 0.107 with the P value of 0.048 means that the null hypothesis has been rejected, as well as the social acceptance in friends and level of self-worth correlational coefficient is 0.180 with the P value of 0.001 that also rejected the null hypothesis and social acceptance in friends and level of self-worth correlational coefficient is 0.192 with P value of 0.001 that is similarly rejected the null hypothesis. Thus, social acceptance had a positive influence on level of perceived self-worth of the people with physical disability; making them to have better quality of the life which positively affected their physical and mental health, lowers occurrence of stress, depression and anxiety. It is highly appearing that our self-worth is in some ways strongly dependent on other people (Hebio, 2012).<br/> |
