Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Horticulture. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2002. Adviser: Mrs. Analita dm. Magsino.<br/>The study was conducted at the Central Experiment Station, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite from November 2001 to February 2002. It aimed to determine the effects and performance of Sweet basil and Greek basil production in different mulching materials.<br/>Five treatments replicated three times laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design. The treatments used were Tl - no mulch, T2 - coffee pulp, T3 - rice hull, T4 carbon paper and T5 - black plastic.<br/>Results revealed non-significant differences in plant height number and weight of harvested shoot tips and bacterial soft rot infection among plants grown with different mulching materials. Black plastic mulch was the most effective in controlling weed growth. Slight increase in temperature was observed in plots mulched with black plastic, carbon paper and coffee pulp.<br/>Plant growth and yield was not favorably enhanced by any mulching materials, however, better weed growth control was achieved better with the use of either black plastic mulch or carbon paper.<br/><br/> |
