CASTRONUEVO, ROY E Earthquake Preparedness of Households within The West Valley Fault In Cavite. Graduate Thesis. Master in Professional Studies major in Public Administration, Graduate School and Open Learning Center. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. June 2018. Adviser: Dr. Almon R. Oquendo.
The study was conducted to determine the level of preparedness of the households within the West Valley Fault, which has an estimated 7.2 magnitude intensity earthquake effect in the province of Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to describe the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of households, determine their level of preparedness, determine the reasons for being prepared and unprepared, and determine the significant relationship between the socio-demographic profile and level of earthquake preparedness. Descriptive-correlation research design was utilized in the study. Survey questionnaire was devised to answer the research questions. A total of 300 household heads consented to participate in this study. It was found out that there are still unprepared households while those that prepared are knowledgeable on earthquake disaster acquired through media outlets and some from barangay/LGU information drive, seminars, workshops, trainings and the likes. Only few had physical and material preparation such as keeping first aid and disaster kit, disaster and evacuation maps, emergency numbers, extra food and cash, etc. Furthermore, the level of preparedness and the socio-demographic characteristics particularly sex (female are more prepared than male), civil status (single and married are more prepared than separated/widow) and educational attainment (elementary level participants are less prepared than those with higher level of education), family income (households with higher income are more prepared than those with low income), household size (the higher the household size the lesser they are prepared), type of housing (participants with light housing materials are more prepared than those with concrete materials) and type of family (participants within nuclear family are more prepared than those within extended and single parent family) are significantly related. Thus, the key to household preparedness on earthquake is to further educate them and conduct household specific measures, plans, projects and activities considering their circumstances and socio-economic characteristics.

|
