Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with specialization in Statistics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Mr. Antonio V. Cinto. <br/>This study was conducted to construct a model of the extracted factors from self-compassion subscales and general point average (GPA) and its mediating effect. Generally, it aimed to determine if self-compassion subscales have an indirect effect on GPA when the factors extracted act as a mediator. A primary set of data was utilized for the formulation of models. Colleges of the Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite were considered as strata of the study. Four factors were extracted from the self-compassion instrument and these factors were used to construct a confirmatory factor model. Different goodness of fit was verified with confirmatory factor analysis. Mediation was also performed to show the indirect effect of the self-compassion in academic performance where the significant factors acted as mediator using structural equation modelling. Four models were constructed to test the hypothesis for mediating effect. Two models show that there were an indirect effect in self-compassion to academic performance and the mediating variable were love and temper control factor while the other two models show no indirect effect and the mediating variable were emotional distress and optimism factor.<br/>The researchers recommended that learning how to control temper and to love more help one's academic performance while being stressed emotionally and too optimistic were not helping their academic performance. |
