Summary, etc. ROQUE, CARL JOSHUA A. / SARABIA, SHELLY ANNE A. FROM CAMPUS TO MAINSTREAM: Lived Experiences of Campus Journalists turned Media Practitioners. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Ms. Lisette A. Mendoza.
This study was conducted to determine the experiences of selected journalists in campus journalism and mainstream. It aimed to describe the profile of the informants as campus journalists and media practitioners. Also, it aimed to determine the informants' experiences in terms of journalistic skills, work ethics, journalism trainings and journalism traits. This study was conducted from November 2018 to March 2019. This study is qualitative and adopted the phenomenological research design. This study used in-depth interview to answer the research questions in order to achieve deeper understanding the informants' experiences. Transcribed interviews were used to process the gathered qualitative data.
Results revealed that all informants had different experiences in campus journalism and mainstream. The informants were writers, editors and circulation manager during college, five of them were graduates of journalism related courses and the remaining one took Business Management. Also, the informants' age range from 23 to 41 years old, four of the infortliants had 3-5 years of working experience and the other two were in service for 11 and 21 years. It was found out that the informants were working in broadsheets. Furthermore, the study revealed that campus journalism helped the informants develop their skills in data gathering, interviewing and pitching stories. Moreover, the study showed that it is an advantage that they cultured ethics at a young age as it helped them to be more credible journalists at present. Also, attending trainings gave them an idea on how the real world of journalism works as it made their jump to mainstream easier. In addition, training helped in building their linkages. Lastly, campus journalism helped them become assertive, which became very useful in digging stories when they became part of mainstream media
