DELA CRUZ, AIRAH JANE P., FERNANDEZ, TRICIA ANN A., and LOPEZ, JEREMY LANCE J. Isolation and Identification of Fungi from Air Conditioning Units of Selected Science Laboratories in Cavite State University — Indang. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. December 2018. Adviser: Dr. Hosea L. Matel.
A study on isolation and identification of fungal microorganisms present in air conditioning units of selected science laboratories in Cavite State University — Indang Campus was conducted. This study aimed to identify the fungal microorganisms isolated based on their colony morphology and microscopic characteristics; determine the number of fungal microorganisms isolated in air conditioning units of the selected science laboratories in Cavite State University — Indang; and determine the fungal microorganism with the highest frequency.
A total of 16 functioning air conditioning units from the selected science laboratories were selected by the researchers for the study. A descriptive research method was utilized for the data gathering portion of the study. The researchers utilized microbiological techniques to isolate and identify the fungal microorganisms, as well as historical data, and other related theses. These instruments were maximized for the completion of the study.
The air conditioning units (AC) were opened to expose the filters, settled dust; apples were taken from the surfaces of the filter using sterile cotton swabs wet with e water. A total of 32 pure fungal culture were isolated from the dust samples ed in the filter of air conditioning units used by the selected science laboratories in eight different fungal genera were identified. From all dust samples analyzed, eight dominating fungal genera were recorded: Aspergillus spp. (87.50% of the total fungi isolated,), Fusarium spp. (31.25%), Microsporum spp. (6.25%), Penicillium spp. (12.50%), Rhodotorula spp. (43.75%), Rhizopus spp. (43.75%), Talaromyces spp. (6.25%) and, Verticillium spp. (6.25%). After the data analysis, it was found out that Aspergillus spp. has the highest frequency of the total fungal isolates, amounting to 87.50%. Fungal colonies isolated from different source were characterized by their different macroscopic and microscopic morphology
|
