DIONISIO, JAZMIN JOSHUA E., PERIDO, NIKKI G., Development of Cologne out of Essential Oil from Coffee Flower. Research Study (General Science Curriculum), Laboratory Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2019. Adviser: Dr. Hosea D. Matel.
The study entitled "Development of Cologne out of Essential Oil from Coffee Flower' was conducted from December 2018 to March 2019. It aimed to develop a cologne out of essential oil from coffee flower. Specifically, the study aimed to: (1) determine the characteristics of the cologne in terms of (a) color, (b) scent, (c) consistency, and (d) longevity when applied; (2) determine the level of acceptability of the cologne. The study was conducted at Perido Residence, Villa Corazon, Mataas na Lupa, Indang, Cavite and Cavite State University Research Center. There were five treatments having three replications each with the following proportions: (1) 50g coffee flowers soaked in isopropyl alcohol and 250m1 water; distilled twice, (2) 50g coffee flowers soaked in ethanol and 250m1 water, (3) 25g coffee flowers and 250m1 ethanol, (4) 50g coffee flowers soaked in isopropyl alcohol and 250m1 water, and (5) 25g coffee flowers and 250m1 isopropyl alcohol. The cologne were aged for a month after its distillation.
The results of the study showed that the characteristics of the cologne in terms of its color is transparent in color based on the evaluation of the respondents. For its scent there is a significant difference between the treatments. Meanwhile, in its consistency shows that there is no significant difference among the consistency of the cologne. The consistency of the cologne is very thin. Most of the respondents answered that the scent of cologne lasted for more than an hour except for Treatments 1 and 2 that lasted for less than 30 minutes. This shows that in terms of longevity there is a significant difference between the treatment. Out of the 7 treatments, treatment 1, is composed of coffee flowers soaked in isopropyl alcohol and purified water as its base then distilled twice, appeared to be moderately acceptable to the respondents with a mean rank of 3.05, same with treatment 2 with 3.02 and treatment 3 with 3.40 as a mean rank. While treatment 3 was acceptable to the respondents with 3.43 mean rank, along with treatment 4 with 3.64 as its mean rank. The treatments 6 and 7 was highly acceptable to the respondents with the mean rank of 5.52 and 5.95.
|
