RUBENECIA, ARWIN G. Backyard Hog Raising at Alulad, Indang, Cavite: An Entrepreneurial Development Project. Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Animal Production, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. Adviser: Dr. Mariedel L. Autriz. <br/>The project aimed for the student entrepreneur to put up a backyard hog production enterprise. Specifically, it aimed to provide the student an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge in hog production into practice, enhance the skills and knowledge in hog raising enterprise, and gain income and profit from the project. The project was conducted at Brgy. Alulod, Indang, Cavite from December 14, 2018 to March 28, 2019. Four piglets were purchased from a backyard hog raiser in City land, Trece Martirez City, Cavite with an average initial weight of 10 kilograms. <br/>They were fed 3 times a day at 7 a.m., 12nn, and 5 p.m. and consumed 3 sacks of starter pellets in 36 days and 12 sacks of grower pellets in 69 days. During the production, respiratory illness was encountered, and antibiotic was provided. The pen was covered with "lona" to lessen different illness cause by the weather. The final average weight of the four hogs was 85.25 kg. Feed consumption of four hogs for the whole production cycle is 187.50 kg. per head. The average daily gain was 569.44 grams in the starter phase and 716.67 grains in the grower phase. <br/>The average feed conversion efficiency was 1.83 in starter phase and 2.49 in grower phase. The hogs were marketed at P120/kg live weight. The total production cost was P36, 984.13.00 with gross sales of P40, 070.00 obtaining a net income of P4, 085.87. The return on investment was 11.05%<br/> |
