TIGUE GERALD JR. A Backyard Hog Fattening in Barangay Kaytambog, Indang, Cavite; An Entrepreneurial Development Project: Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship Major in Animal Production, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Mr. Noriel Bergonio <br/>The pigpen measured 3 square meters. It was prepared and cleaned with broomstick, water, and detergent (powder), and disinfected with disinfectant two weeks before procurement of stocks. The piglets had an average weight of 17.63kg. The piglets were purchased in Lumampong, Indang, Cavite. Then the piglets were given water with sugar as source of electrolytes. The feeds were delivered from a store at Bgry. Lumampong, Indang, Cavite. Every day, the pigs were fed 3 times a day. In first phase of feeding, took 35 days, the hogs were fed with hog starter pellets. <br/>The next phase lasted 41 days, hog grower pellets were given to the hogs. For the last 16 days of feeding the hogs, the hogs were fed with hog finisher pellets. Shifting of feeds was done to avoid stress to the hogs. Drinking water was made available to the hogs all the time through an installed nipple drinker. The pigpen was disinfected two weeks before procuring the stocks. The hogs were bathed every day, except when the water was cold, to avoid heatstroke and foul odor in the pen. The hogs were marketed by dressed weight at P160.00 per kilo. <br/>The average weight of the weanlings was at 17.63kg and after 92 days of raising hog, had an average final in weight of 88.18kg. The average gain in weight was 70.55kg, the average daily gain was 766.85, average feed consumption was 200 kg, and the feed conversion efficiency was 2.84.<br/>The student entrepreneur concluded that he applied most of what was learned in classes into the actual raising of hogs. He successfully evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of swine raising in terms of profitability and overall production. He also successfully gained profit from raising 4 hogs, but other than the profit, he also gained experience from the project. He recommended to those who want to become a hog raiser to start little so that it will be easier to handle and manage. After experiencing the actual raising and managing a hog farm, expand their farm if they also want to raise the profit they intend to gain.<br/> |
