BASA, ARLYN D., NUESTRO, ALDRIN E., PEJI, RON GABRIEL A. Excess Score Experiment: Honesty as a Function of Gender and Personality of Psychology Students at Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018. Adviser: Cecilia B. Banaag, PhD, RGC, RPsy. <br/>This study was conducted from January to February 2018 at the College of Arts and Sciences, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, to determine honesty as a function of gender and personality of psychology students. Specifically, this study aimed to: identify the personality types of the students according to their gender; determine the number of male and female students who revealed and did not reveal their true scores; determine the number of students who revealed and did not reveal their true scores in accordance with their personality type as classified into Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism; identify the degree of difference on the number of male and female students who revealed and did not reveal their true scores; and identify the degree of difference on the number of students who revealed and did not reveal their true scores in accordance with their personality type. Quasi-experimental design was used in this study. <br/>An experimentation was conducted by which the true scores of the students in their preliminary examinations in randomly selected subjects were added with one (1) or two (2) points to see who among them would reveal their true scores as manifestation of honesty. Afterwards, a personality test was administered to the students to determine their personality types. Some 158 students served as participants in this study, consisting of 26 males and 132 females.<br/>Majority of the students were seen as having an active imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, and attentiveness to inner feelings; a preference for variety, intellectual curiosity, and independence of judgment, trust, altruism, kindness, affection, and other prosocial behaviors. The female students were also found to have a high tendency to experience emotional instability, anxiety, moodiness, irritability, and sadness. Female students outnumbered the males in terms of revealing their true scores. But, the dishonesty in the academic setting was also highlighted, as the number of students who did not reveal their true scores was higher than those who did. The test to determine honesty as a function of gender and personality of psychology students at Cavite State University revealed that gender and personality do not determine honesty. That is, a person, regardless of gender and personality type possessed, may or may not manifest honesty. It is highly recommended that the University implements programs and policies that could promote honesty as well as the other core moral values among the students.<br/> |
