Summary, etc. ESPINELI, MICHAEL G. and MOJICA, CAROLINE L. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2004. Application of Canonical Correlation Analysis in Determining the Relationship between the Personality and Academic Performance of Students in College Algebra. Adviser: Mrs. Renelyn R. Cordial.
The special problem on Application of Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) in Determining the Relationship Between the Personality and Academic Performance of Cavite State University students in College Algebra was conducted to determine the personality that greatly affects the academic performance of the students and determine the magnitude of relationship between the personality and the academic performance of the students. Canonical Correlation Analysis is a multivariate technique that can be used when there is a series of multiple regressions on the data that are explaining a series of variables that are potentially related. The Canonical Correlation Analysis measures the strength of associations between the two sets of variates. The aim of the technique is to find simpler explanations for the relationship between the two sets of variables, since it attempts to replace a high dimensional relationship between two sets of variables into a few pairs of canonical variates. Findings of this study showed that personality and academic performance has low correlation, only about 7.1371 percent of the variance in the academic performance variables is accounted for by the personality variables. Assertiveness and emotional stability represents the personality and the academic performance is represented by long exam and final grade. The other personalities (self-esteem, perfectionism, sociability and self-reliance has near zero correlation in academic performance. The study revealed that there is positive correlation between personality and academic performance. It is advisable to make further test on the academic performance of the students in other subjects. Other personalities can be taken into consideration for more accurate results in determining the relationship of personality and academic performance of the students.
