A comparative study on different lifestyle and behaviors of young, young adult and adult cancer patients, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite, April 2006. Advisers: Professor Lenila A. de Vera R.N., M.P.H., and Dr. Josefina R. Rint.<br/>The study was undertaken to identify the different lifestyles and behaviors being demonstrated by young, young adult, and adult cancer patient before being diagnose of cancer and to be able to identify specific changes in lifestyles and behaviors of young, young adult and adult cancer patients after being diagnosed of cancer.<br/>Data were gathered from different hospitals around Cavite such as DLSU- UMC, GEANIH, Korea- Philippines Friendship Hospital and a hospital in Manila which was UP- Philippine General Hospital. The respondents consisted of thirty cancer patients regardless of sex and grouped into ten young whose ages ranged from below 30 years old, ten young adults whose ages ranged above thirty and below 60 years old and ten adults whose ages ranged from 60 and above. Data were analyzed using a comparative and descriptive method such as frequency counts, percentage, and by the used of Likert Scale for the ranking of significance.<br/>Based on the research findings patients have various responses on how they look upon the disease and demonstrated different types of behaviors and lifestyle. The negative indication of lifestyle of cancer patients was the daily activities, type of diet and vices. After being diagnosed with cancer, the patients demonstrated common changes in terms of attitude and emotion, personality, and coping mechanism. Negative behaviors such as loneliness, depression, anxiety, and denial were the mostly demonstrated by all<br/><br/>cancer patients, particularly, the young ones because their mentality was not that as wide as to young adult and adult cancer patients. Contrary to the negative behaviors, we have the socialization, elation, relaxation, and acceptance that might be established to a cancer patient through the help of such support group, most importantly the significant others.<br/> |
