<br/>DE ROSAS, REDEMPTA DE LUNA. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April, 1998. Factors Associated with the Farmers’ Level of Participation in the Livestock Project_under Livelihood Enhancement _for Agricultural Development Program in Selected Municipalities of Quezon Province. Adviser: Dr. Marietta C. Mojica.<br/><br/>The study was conducted mainly to determine the factors associated with the farmers’ level of participation in the livestock LEAD Program. Specifically, it aimed to:<br/>a) describe the socio-economic characteristics of LEAD beneficiaries, b) determine the farmers’ level of participation; c) ascertain the relationship between some selected socio-economic characteristics and their farmers’ level of participation; d) identify the benefits derived from the LEAD Program; and e) identify the problems met in their participation in the program.<br/><br/>The study had 181 respondents from eight selected municipalities of Bondoc Peninsula area. The data were gathered through personal interview using an interview schedule.<br/><br/>Findings showed that majority of the respondents belong to the middle age group. Most of them had reached elementary level of education. Average household size was six and most of the respondents resided in the area with an average of 42 years. Majority of the farmers were leasehold and share tenants with an average farming experience of 25 years in livestock production. Sources of capital and inputs came from middlemen and almost all of the farmers depend on agricultural farming as their major source of income.<br/><br/>Majority of the respondents participated in almost all the activities identified and were rated “high”. Overall, this study revealed that respondents’ level of participation in the livestock LEAD Program was “high”.<br/><br/>The correlation test showed that farmers’ tenurial status, length of farming experience in livestock farming, source of capital and source of farm inputs were found to have highly significant relationship with level of participation.<br/><br/>Increased income was the most frequently mentioned benefit derived by farmers from their participation in the LEAD Program while insufficient funding was the most frequently mentioned problem by the farmers.<br/><br/> |
