CASTOR, JANICE L., PENA, HERSIE N. and SHERYL D. VALENCIA. Design and Development of a PC-based Faculty Attendance Monitoring System Using Fingerprint Reader for the College of Engineering and Information Cavite State University Main Campus. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2003. Adviser: Poinsettia A. Vida
The Design and Development of a PC-based Faculty Monitoring System Using Fingerprint Reader for the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite State University Main Campus was constructed at Buenavista Il, General Trias, Cavite.
The design was tested and evaluated at the DCEE Faculty Room, of the three-storey Engineering Building.
The general objective of the study was to design and develop a PC-based faculty attendance monitoring system using fingerprint reader. Specifically, it aimed to: design a circuit that would interface the system; create a software that would control the system; construct the whole system; test and evaluate the system through pilot testing at CEIT; and conduct a cost computation.
The design project consisted of both software and hardware. The Microsoft Visual Basic was used to develop the software and an interface card was designed to provide a
Communication link between the computer and the hardware. The software contained two databases: one for the registration of fingerprints and the other was for the daily transactions of each employee. The hardware was composed of in and out buttons and a buzzer, which were connected to the interface card of the system. The in and out buttons were provided to guide each faculty and staff the logging in and logging out transactions.
The buzzer served to acknowledge if each employee successfully logged in and logged out. Also, the very vital part that comprised the design system was the fingerprint reader.
The fingerprint reader was used for the verification of different users.
In testing the performance of the design, an evaluation through pilot testing was conducted. The faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Information Technology participated in the evaluation by putting their own finger each time they logged in and logged out. The proponents checked if the name of that employee appeared on the monitor. The results showed that the system was more efficient and reliable as compared to using a swipe card, key or password for monitoring faculty and staff attendance. Unlike passwords, PIN codes, and smart cards which people depend upon today for identification, human fingerprints are impossible to lose or forget, and can never be stolen.
|
