<br/>The study entitled "Population Density of Sweet Potato", was conducted in Don Severino Agricultural College experimental field from June 1979 to October 1972 to find out how difference in distance affected the yield of sweet potato.<br/><br/>An experimental field of about 437 square meters was thoroughly »renared. The area was divided into four Blocks representing;s four replications. It was further subdivided into five plots to represent the five treatments. Using the Georgia red variety of Camote, the cuttings were planted at different distances made at 80 aa. apart.<br/><br/>Tortoise shell beetles attacked the plant which were controlled by spraying them with malathion at the recommended dosage. Rats heavily damaged those plants with<br/>wider spacings.<br/><br/>Biggest and heaviest tubers were harvested by Treatment 3 (40 x 80 cm.), followed by Treatment 1 (20 x 60 cm.) per ten plants. However, if per unit area will be considered, the latter treatment will give more production as there are more plants in a given area. It could be noted therefore that in this study, the best distance of planting was 20 x 80 centimeters.<br/> |
