Thesis Adviser: Romeo D. Fortes, PhD.<br/><br/>The study was conducted to determine the effect of different types of shelter on the production of mud crab, Scylla serrata, juveniles in concrete nursery tanks. One day- old mud crab megalopae were nursed at four different treatments: Treatment I (Nylon ribbon screen), Treatment II (Nipa shingle), Treatment III (Piled cobbles) and Treatment IV (Control/No shelter). Weight increment, production and survival of nursing megalopa to crablets were analyzed in each treatment.<br/><br/>Treatment I (Nylon ribbon screen) had the highest mean final weight (0.4567g), percentage weight increment (7387%) and specific growth rate (14.39%) which was significantly higher (P<0.05) than Treatment II (Nipa shingles’ mean final weight of 0.33672; 5420% percentage weight increase and 13. 37% specific growth rate). However, it was not significantly different than Treatment 3 (Piled cobbles) and Treatment 4 (No shelter). .<br/><br/>Total production in terms of weight showed significant differences (P<0.05) among treatments. Treatment 1 was significantly higher (5.36g) than Treatments 2 (2.35g) and 4 (2.75g) but was not significantly different than Treatment 3 (4.24g). The differences in the rates of survival and the sizes of crablets produced in each treatment may have contributed to this statistical difference.<br/>Treatment I had the highest mean survival rate (26%) followed by Treatment 3<br/>(22%), Treatment 4 (16%) and Treatment 2 (15%).
