The farm practice project, "Establishment of Backyard Nursery for Orchard Crops", was conducted at Barangay Lumipa, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite from August, 1984 to February91985 to develop a give and take relationship between the student intern and the farmer—cooperator about the techniques and practices, and the merits of plant propagation° The primary objective of the project was to establish a backyard nursery for the orchard crops as a source of additional income, and to serve as model to farmers as 'Well° The loan granted by the Department of Extension Services IGPL Fund to student and farmer was utilized for acquiring the material input such as plastic bags, seeds and seedlings, sprinklers and fertilizer and for hiring laborers. The operational period was only six months. Thus, only few seedlings were marketed° It was assumed that on May 1985 all the remaining seedlings would be disposed. <br/>Labor was the counterpart of the farmer cooperator with student intern still assisting only the work that lasted long and needed more hands was hired. <br/>Only grafting operation was done by the practitioner. Net income was divided between the farmer—cooperator and the management. Sixty percent was for farmer—cooperator and 40 percent was for the management. Management share was donated to farmer for the continuation and expansion of the project. The farmer had a sale of P483.75 on the first marketing. <br/>It was assumed that in May, 1985, upon disposal of all the seedlings, an additional amount of P2606.25 would be obtained. Finally, the farmer grossed an income of P3, 090.00 and a net income of P1,677.00 after deducting a total operational expenses of P1,313.00. High project income was due to successful asexual propagation.<br/> |
