The farm practice training was conducted in Sabang, Nalco Cavite from August 1988 to February 1989. The project aimed to demonstrate the application of improved cultural practices in sitao production to increase its yield. An area of 2,500 square meter, was utilized in this project. The activities started by alternately plowing the land with harrowing followed by furrowing, planting and fertilization. Planting was 'done following the recommended distance of 20 centimeters between hills. The first planting and fertilizer application was done on August 20, 1988. All plants were destroyed by typhoon Unsang” which lead to the re-conduct of the project. Another planting was done on November 140 1988. Weeding was done with the use of a hand trowel. The seeds started to germinate three to four days after planting. Harvesting was done when the pods were fully filled green ready for table purposes. A total of 450 kilo-grams of sitao pods was harvested and marketed at P4.00 per kilogram. A gross income of P 1,800.00 was obtained. After deducting all the expenses, a net income of P650.00 was realized. |
