A piggery project was put up at the back of the faculty cottages in DSAC covering a period of 144 days. The project begun October 7, 1982 and was completed February 1983. It aimed to determine the feasibility of raising hogs using pure commercially prepared feeds. The average initial weight of the hogs was 12,825 kilograms. At the end of the study, the animals gained an average of 73.425 kilograms. The total feed consumed per animal was 300.25 kilograms with a feed conversion ratio of 1:4.09 and a feed efficiency of 24.45%. A sum of P3925.35 was loaned from AEOP for this project. After deducting the total cost of production of P4095.45 from the total gross income which amounted to P4188.00, a net return of P92.55 was realized. |
