The project, "Production of Corn and Peanut in an Intercropping System" was conducted at Barangay Daine, Indang, Cavite from July to November 1990. This aimed to develop the skill of the student in the pro-per management practices in crop production, speci-fically intercropping to optimize the use of a certain piece of farm land. An area of 1,500 square meters was used in the project. High-yielding varieties of corn and peanut were used in this experiment as objects of an inter-cropping scheme. Corn seeds were planted with 75 cm distance between rows and 50 ems between hills. For peanuts, a distance of 75 ems between rows and 20 ems between hills were used. Germination of corn and peanut seeds which took place four to six da4fs after planting was completed six to eight days after. Weeding and cultivation of the project was done twice after planting. Complete fertilizer (14-14-14) was applied at the rate of 200 kg/ha while in the second application Urea (46-0-0) was used at the rate of 150 kg/ha.<br/>Insecticide (Folidol M50) was applied at the rate of 3 to 5 teaspoons per 16 liters water. Corn ears were harvested 76 days from the time of planting. Meanwhile, peanut was harvested 86 days after planting. Harvested corn and peanut were sold immediately in the market. The total number of corn ears produced was P 1,910 which were sold at 01.50 per ear. This gave a total income of P 1,742.875. The total production of peanut was 18 cans which were sold at 0110.00 per can, thus giving a total income of P 1,980.00. After deducting the total expenses of P 1,798.85 from the total gross income of 03,721.75, a net income of 01,931.90 was realized. On the other hand, a re-turn on investment of 107.94% was obtained.<br/> |
