MALIMBAN, GEMMALYN LEGASPI, Don Severino Agricultural College, February 1991. Factors Associated With The Choice of Major Fields of DSAC College Students. Adviser: Dr. Leonora A. Mojica<br/><br/>The study was conducted to determine the factors associated with choice of major fields of DSAC college students. In order to obtain the desired information, personal interviews with 97 student-respondents were conducted using the prepared interview guide.<br/><br/>Majority of the students were male and had ages ranging from 19 to 20 years. Majority of them were moderately interested in their chosen major field. Majority of them were not influenced by their peers in choosing<br/>their major field.<br/><br/>Majority of the parents had occupations related to farming and fishing. Majority of them were only high school graduates.<br/><br/>Majority of the students reported that their chosen major field had a grade requirement of at least passing. Only Economics and Crop Protection had the grade requirement of 2.0 to 2.75.<br/><br/>Majority of the students were taking up Animal Science and Agronomy. Only a few were taking up Agricultural Extension.<br/><br/><br/>The chi-square test revealed the relationship between the independence and choice of major fields. The variables which are found to have significant relationship with choice of major fields were: sex, occupational level of mother and grade requirement the contingency coefficient showed the degree of association between choice of major fields and the variables such as sex, occupational level of mother and grade requirement.<br/><br/>Cramer's V was used to avoid the disadvantage of the contingency coefficient.<br/> |
