Summary, etc. DE CASTRO, LEO ANGELO M., PAPA, JOSE RAFAEL A.: Effectiveness of Powdered Tea from Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) and Pandan (Pandanus Amaryllifolius) Leaves. Research Study (General Science Curriculum). Laboratory Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2019. Adviser: Mr. Sunny Rose Ferrera.

The study was conducted from March to May 2019 at Indang, Cavite, test the effectiveness of tea made from malunggay and pandan leaves among Grade 12 students of Cavite State University — Laboratory Science High School. Specifically, the study aimed to: (1) determine the pH level of the produced tea from pandan and malunggay leaves; and (2) determine the general acceptability of the tea in terms of color, aroma, and taste. Quantitative design was used in the study. The participants were given a set of generic tea, and the tea produced from pandan and malunggay leaves. It is found out that the produced malunggay and pandan leaves tea was more effective. It was also found out that half of the participants found the color of the produced tea as very appealing, most participants describe the aroma of the tea as slightly appealing, and that the participants are equally split into two in describing its taste between sweet and no taste. It was also found out that the tea possess a perceived calming effect. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend the following for future studies: (1) the leaves should be grounded into much finer particles in order to further extract the extremely rich pleasant green color when prepared in hot water; (2) pandan leaves, which give the tea a distinct aromatic smell, may be increased in order to produce a very appealing aromatic tea; (3) honey or a little sugar may be added to the tea, in accordance to popular custom, to sweeten the tea according to one’s liking; (4) use malunggay and pandan leaves from other towns or places in order to determine its particular effectiveness; (5) the sample population may be increased and changed; and (6) clinical studies must be done to determine the effects of tea on stress.
