Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of<br/>Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2019,<br/>Adviser: Engr. Gerry M. Castillo.<br/>The study was conducted from August 2018 to March 2019 in different coffee processing<br/>companies in Cavite to develop an ergonomically designed coffee sorting table. Specifically, it<br/>aimed to: 1. determine the problems encountered by the workers while using the existing coffee<br/>sorting workstation; 2. design and develop an ergonomically designed coffee sorting table; 3.<br/>determine the possible features that can be added to the developed coffee sorting table design;<br/>and 4. evaluate the coffee sorting table design in terms of functionality, aesthetics, durability and<br/>safety. Developmental research was used in the study. Company observations, interviews, use<br/>of survey questionnaires, and measuring of worker's body parts were done to gather pertinent<br/>data. Total population sizes of 15 respondents were the participants of the study. It was found<br/>out that the problems encountered by workers were back, neck and shoulder discomforts.<br/>A rapid upper limb assessment (RULA) was conducted and according to the result;<br/>further investigation should be conducted and change may be needed. The anthropometric data<br/>of each respondent were obtained. Dimensions were established and the prototype was<br/>designed according to the workers' requirements. The features included to the design of the<br/>prototype were adjustable height, automated initial sorting process, adjustable mesh inclination,<br/>simple machine mechanism and edge bathers. The developed ergonomically designed coffee<br/>sorting table prototype was assessed using evaluation sheet provided. The prototype obtained<br/>excellent marks in terms of functionality, aesthetics, durability and safety. |
