ERNI, ABBYGAIL C.; PACAIGUE, YVETTE R.; ROMAN, RENZI D.
Competency of Criminology Faculty and Student on the Used of Forensic Laboratory
Equipment on selected Criminology School in Province of Cavite. Undergraduate
thesis. Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.
June 2019, Adviser: Prof. V-jay S. Eusebio.
The study was conducted from August 2018 to May 2019 in selected Criminology
School in Cavite, to determine the level of competency of selected criminology faculty and
student on the use of forensic laboratory equipment, specifically it aimed to: 1. determine the
demographic profile of selected faculty and selected 4th year student in selected criminology
school in terms of age, sex, civil status, number of years in teaching and number of attended
seminar related to forensic laboratory equipment; 2. measure the level of competency of
selected criminology faculty on the use of forensic laboratory equipment in terms of
knowledge, skill and attitude; 3. measure the level of competency of selected 4ü1 year
student on the use of forensic laboratory equipment in terms of knowledge, skill and attitude;
4. identify the significant difference of knowledge, skills, and attitude of faculty and students.
Descriptive method was utilized to determine the level of competency of selected
criminology faculty and selected 4th year criminology student. The participant was composed
of 17 selected criminology faculty and 124 selected 4th year criminology student served as
the participant of the study. Purposive sampling is a non-probability sampling method, and it
arises when researcher relies on his or her own judgment when choosing the participants to
participate in the study. In this sampling procedure, researchers often believe that they can
obtain a representative sample by using a sound judgment, which will result in saving time
and money (Black, 2010) Total enumeration is a type of technique where the researcher can
choose to examine the entire population that have a particular set of characteristics?

In terms of demographic profile of selected criminology faculty and selected 4
th
criminology students in five (5) selected criminology school in Cavite. Most of the participants
were belong to the age bracket of 18-25 years old; male, single most of the participants were
attended seminars belong to the bracket of 10-12. In terms of level of competency of selected
criminology faculty on the use of forensic laboratory equipment in terms of attitude, they can
fully understand criminalistics subject, because they undergone criminalistics subjects,
seminars, and trainings. While for the competency of student on the use of forensic laboratory
equipment in terms of attitude, they are fast learner in criminalistics subject because they
undergone criminalistics subjects and attended seminars.
In terms of significant difference between the competency of selected criminology faculty
and selected 4

th year criminology student on the use of forensic laboratory equipment. It
revealed that there is indeed significant difference between the competence of selected
criminology faculty and selected 4

th year criminology student on the use of forensic laboratory
equipment. Faculty are competent on the use of forensic laboratory equipment because they
are attending seminars and have an experience in teaching. Students are competent on the use
of forensic laboratory equipment because they are also attending seminars and they have a
competent teacher. Faculty are more competent than students, because they are undergone
several trainings. Students become competent through a competent teacher. Therefore, the
hypothesis stating that there's a significant difference between faculty and student on the use
forensic laboratory equipment. |
