Adviser: Dr. Marlon Mojica<br/><br/>This study was conducted to determine the effects of oil price volatility on the Philippine<br/>automobile industry. The objective of this study is to determine the performance of the Philippine<br/>automobile industry; determine the historical behavior of oil price in the Philippines from 2001-<br/>2017; determine if the price of oil in the Philippines show volatility clustering; and determine if<br/>there is a significant relationship between oil price volatility and the sales of automobile in the<br/>Philippines.<br/>The researchers used secondary data from 2001 to 2017 gathered from the Department<br/>of Energy, Board of Investment and Chamber of Automotive Manufactures of the Philippines,<br/>Inc.<br/>The study used Ordinary Least Squares to analyze the relationship between the<br/>automobile sales and the oil price. Further, ARCH and GARCH were used to estimate the<br/>volatility of the oil price. The automobile was categorized as passenger car, light commercial<br/>vehicle, and commercial vehicle.<br/>Results showed that oil price in Philippines showed volatility clustering. There was a<br/>negative. relationship between the price of diesel and the automobile sales and positive<br/>relationship between the price of gasoline and the automobile sales. |
