Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Cavite State<br/>University, Indang, Cavite. May 2022. Adviser: Dr. Famela Iza Cabe Matic.<br/>The abuse of drugs is still a world-wide concern wherein people are putting their health<br/>at risk. It is alarming that most of these people are students, despite the fact that they are<br/>involved in school matters that can help them grow and avoid unacceptable norms. Drug<br/>abuse persists as people have low awareness as they remain apathetic and uneducated<br/>towards this social problem thus leading to misconceptions about the usefulness’ of dangerous<br/>and illegal drugs in their mind and body. Because of this, the Philippine Drug Enforcement<br/>Agency (PDEA) organized an Information and Education Campaign (IEC) with one of its<br/>programs titled "Substance Abuse Prevention Education" (SAPE) conducted in Ateneo de<br/>Davao University whereby it informs and educates students about dangers of illegal drugs and<br/>our country’s drug situation in order to achieve the drug use and abuse prevention and<br/>suppression.<br/>The current study determined the level of awareness of Cavite State University — main<br/>campus students towards drug abuse and education in terms of types and effects of<br/><br/>dangerous drugs and legal mandates Experimental research design, specifically the Pretest-<br/>Posttest design under Quantitative research method was utilized. A total of 128 currently<br/><br/>enrolled students from different departments were involved which was selected through<br/>Convenience Sampling. The students were divided into two groups, Experimental and<br/>Controlled, wherein each consisted of 64 students with different phases of participation<br/>according to group. Pre-test and Post-test via Google Forms were used as the primary data<br/>collection tool.<br/>Students in the Experimental group completed pre- and post-tests as well as<br/>participated in the study's Drug Abuse Education Program, while students in the Controlled<br/>group only completed the pre and post-tests. The study revealed that students have a<br/>moderate awareness in the types and effects of drugs while being highly aware of legal<br/>mandates base on the results of their pretest. On the other hand, the results of their post-test<br/>show an improvement in their level of awareness as they became highly aware in all<br/>categories, demonstrating that any measures and programs can be a factor in raising the<br/>students' awareness.
