DIONISIO, EDLET CHRISTINE S., GONZALES JASMINE GAYLE, JOCSON,AERIES
DARYLL C., LAUREZO, RICCI ANNE V. AND MARTINEZ, PRINCESS JOY A. Tracer Study
of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology Graduates of Cavite State University 2014-
2018, Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Cavite State
University, Indang, Cavite April 2022, Adviser: Mr. John Jeron B. Datoy, RMT.

The study was conducted in Cavite State University-Main Campus from September
2020 to April 2022. The general objective of the study was to trace the BSMT graduates of
Cavite State University from 2014 to 2018. Specifically, it aimed to determine the (a) socio-
demographic profile of the participants, their (b) employability, their (c) perceived personal and

professional growth, and their (d) perceived competencies of the BSMT program in CVSU. It
also aimed to determine the significant relationship between the participant's employability
and: (e) their socio-demographic profile, their (f) perceived personal and professional growth
acquired, and their (g) perceived competencies of the programs in CvSU.
Graduate Tracer Study, as stated by Schomburg (2016), is significant for the "analysis
of the relationship between higher education and work" (p. 215). In line with this, GTS
provides quantitative and categorical data obtaining information regarding the employment
status, career experiences, and related competencies that the graduates acquired with HEIS.
To address the growing competitive labor markets of the country, CHED (2006), developed the
GTS to assess the status and overcome challenges in the graduates' employment capabilities.
The researchers utilized a quantitative descriptive-correlational design to provide
quantifiable data from the statistically derived 136 CvSU BSMT graduates from Batch 2014 to
2018. The Study primarily used a modified GTS questionnaire based on
the one provided by CHED, and from the results presented by Tutor et al. in 2019.

The questionnaire consisted of categorical and ratio scale data and was administered
using Google forms. Descriptive statistics was used for fulfilling the first four objectives of this
study. Specifically, frequency, percentages, and median were used. For the correlation, the
Pearson Chi-square test was utilized to determine if there was a significant association between
the categorical variables and the employability of the graduates. Cramer's V was also utilized to
determine the magnitude of the relationship among categorical variables, Mile, Somer's D was
used for ordinal measures. These statistical techniques were used to fulfill objectives which
aimed to determine significant relationships.

Overall, the results showed that predominantly, the participants were highly satisfied with
their job; and the knowledge and skills they acquired from the program were distinctly useful to
their current jobs. Competencies of CvSU were highly perceived by the respondents except for
the laboratory resources. There has been a high employment rate for the graduates, as mostly
were able to pass their licensure exam on the first attempt. The majority of the participants were
employed to the profession aligned with BSMT, with their monthly salary categorized under the
low middle class. This study revealed that there was a significant association between the
participants' demographic profile and their employability. Also, significant relationship was
established on the employability of the graduates and their perceived personal and Pr0fessional
growth. Lastly, significant relationship was also found on the good employability of the
participants and to their high perceptions on the competency of CvSU in offering the BSMT
program.
In line with the results of this research, the objectives for future tracer studies could be
based on the correlations presented here and be limited to a specific focus only. This could
include an analysis of the significant differences in the variables involved, which may be done
with a larger population. It is also recommended to improve the laboratory resources and
management for the program. |
