Summary, etc. BAYLON, PATRICK JHIM N., DALAY, EMMANUEL A., ENCARNACION, JOYCE V.,
REYES, ROMEO MICHAEL RYAN H., Ill, AND UMAYAM, KRISELLE ROSE A., Lived
Experiences of Cavite State University College of Nursing Faculty in Teaching Online
During Covid-19 Pandemic. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical
Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2021. Adviser: Annie M.
Ramos, RN, RMT, MD. The study was conducted at Cavite State University, particularly the College of
Nursing from June 2020 to 2021 for two semesters. The study aimed to dive into the
phenomenon of the participants about their experiences in their delivery of teaching online,
their personal life while teaching online, reflections of those experiences and resolutions
based on those reflections. Interpretative phenomenological qualitative research design was
utilized to meet the objectives of the study and summarize the lived experiences of six (6)
Cavite State University College of Nursing Faculty. In order to determine their stands in teaching online during the COVID-19 pandemic, a
semi-structured interview questionnaire was utilized during an in-depth open-ended interview
process conducted through google meetings. Face-to-face interviews are not feasible due to
the pandemic restrictions. The verbatim of six (6) Cavite State University College of Nursing
Faculty were transcribed and analyzed using an interpretative phenomenological approach
until saturation of themes were achieved. Results show that the participants lacked experience in technology, had various
communication struggles and conveniences, various weights of workload, and experienced a
sudden transition to online class followed by the adaptation to the new normal. Moreover, their
personal lives involved flexible time, comfort at home,
professional growth, maintenance and deterioration of health status, and positive and negative
emotions. Participants also reflected on the instant switch to online learning, value of
contingency plans, limitations of online classes, discussing at home, enhanced teaching
techniques and communication. The participants' resolutions involved positive growth,
persistence and perseverance, positive perspective, having a good heart, and self-care.
After these findings, researchers recommended professors in online classes to focus
on the good aspects of online communication, maximize flexibility in time to account for the
hard parts of online classes and for personal needs, and to optimize the comfort of home while
maintaining work-home boundaries. Researchers also recommend educational institutions to
establish contingency plans about sudden transitions of modes of educational delivery. Lastly, researchers recommended future researchers should take note of the study findings as factors
that can be further explored quantitatively.
