Rupido.
The study investigated the awareness level of generation Z and millennials on a mobile
electronic payment system and their attitude towards it. Mobile electronic payment system is
simply defined as paying for goods and or services on the internet. It includes all financial
operations using electronic devices such as smartphones or tablets. Specifically, this study
aimed to: (1) determine the demographic profile of the participants; (2) determine the
purchasing habit of millennials and generation Z users of a mobile electronic payment system;
(3) determine the awareness level of the participants on mobile payment services; (4) determine
the attitude of the participants in terms of the security, privacy, and convenience of mobile
payment system; (5) ascertain if there is a significant relationship between demographic profile
of participants and their attitude towards mobile payment; (6) ascertain if there is a significant
difference between purchasing habit and attitude of millennials and generation Z; (7) and
ascertain if there is a significant relationship between the awareness level and attitude of
participants on mobile electronic payment system.
The researchers used a correlational and descriptive type of research design. Primary
data were collected by executing field survey and secondary data were gathered from related
research studies, published articles and journals. The study covered two cities in Cavite namely:
Imus City and Dasmariñas City. A total of 384 generation Z and millennials participated in this
study. Results showed that the majority of the mobile payment users were generation Z, ages
19 years old and below, female, single, and college students and graduates.
Generation Z was moderately aware of the services that mobile payment providers have
offered. Millennials, on the other hand, were extremely aware. The participants showed a
favorable attitude in terms of the privacy, security, and convenience of the mobile payment
system. According to the results of the study, the majority of the participants learned about
mobile payment through social media. The most used mobile payment providers were GCash
and followed by Pay Maya. Results also indicated that cash is still the preferred mode of
payment of both millennials and generation Z when purchasing goods or services. Furthermore,
results showed that generation Z and millennials' awareness level and attitudes towards mobile
electronic payment system have a significant relationship.
