Summary, etc. AVELLONES, ANDREA COLEEN A., JUANANI, CHARMAINE JOY B., PADA,
MARCO, PELAYO, CESIAH C., AND SALA, CLAIRE CHRISTINE V. Difference Between the
Case Detection Rates (CDRs) and Treatment Success Rates (TSRs) of Directly Observed
Treatment Short Course (TB DOTS) in Rural Health Units in Cavite Before and During the
COVID-19 Pandemic. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology.
Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2022. Adviser: Mr. John Jeron B. Datoy, RMT.
The study was conducted at Cavite State University-Main Campus, College of Nursing,
Department of Medical Technology from September 2020 to June 2021. It aimed to determine
the difference between case detection rate (CDR) and treatment success rate (TSR) of the
directly observed treatment short course (TB DOTS) in the year 2019 and 2020. The study
utilized a quantitative-descriptive research design which established concise description about
the differences of CDR and TSR as indicators of TB DOTS. The data required from each RHU in
Cavite province were gathered from the Cavite Collaboration Center for Public Health (CCCPH).
The CDR and TSR from the years 2019 and 2020 were analyzed using t-tests. Data analysis
revealed that there is a significant decline in the CDR while there are varying results for TSR
which show both increased and decreased values. For the years 2019 and 2020, the case
detection rate (CDR) of tuberculosis (TB) cases from rural health units (RHUS) in Cavite shows
falling results. With this result, it can be seen that there is a significant difference in the number
of cases detected between the years 2019 and 2020. The Cavite province experienced a
significant drop in the overall CDR from 81.02 percent in 2019 to 34.21 percent in 2020 (a
difference of 46.81 percent). The treatment success rate (TSR) in the rural health units (RHUS)
in Cavite province for the years 2019 and 2020 is slightly increased from 91.60 percent in 2019
to 92.54 percent in 2020 (a difference of 0.94 percent). This is associated with the lockdown,
travel restrictions and health protocols enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic response. In
line with the result of the study, it is recommended to expand the scope of the area of the study,
specifically, the areas with the most numbers of COVID-19 cases as well as improvement of the
application of telemedicine for faster detection of TB cases and monitoring current treatment in
far flung areas.
