AURE, LUNESA PEJI, "Production and Marketing of Native Chicken in Selected Towns of Upland Cavite", Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Major in Agricultural Economics, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1995. Adviser: Prof. Cecilia T. Cayao.<br/><br/>This study was conducted in selected towns of Upland Cavite with the objective of determining 1) the socio-economic characteristics of farmers raising native chicken, 2) the production and marketing practices employed by native chicken raisers, 3) the level of production in the selected area, 4) the production cost incurred and income received by the raisers, and 5) the problems encountered by the native chicken raisers with regards to the production and marketing practices.<br/><br/>A total of 45 respondents from different municipalities of Upland Cavite were personally interviewed with the aid of prepared questionnaires. The average age of the respondents was 45 years old. The respondents had an average of three dependents and two earning family members. Majority of the respondents were owner-operators.<br/><br/>The production practices employed by the raisers include: housing, breeding, incubation, brooding, growing, laying, feeding and disease prevention.<br/><br/>The native chicken raisers have an average present capital of ~4,037.00. The average total cash return and cash expenses in producing native chicken were ~41,544.88 and P19,896.00 respectively with an average profit of ~25,856.15.<br/><br/>The problems encountered in native chicken production include high cost of feeds and medicines, pest and diseases, lack of market outlet, and transportation facilities.<br/><br/>Native chicken raisers should be given adequate support by the government and private agencies in terms of both technical and financial assistance so that production of native chicken in the province will flourish.<br/> |
