Lived Experiences of<br/>Working 3^ Year Medical Technology Students of Cavite State University - Main Campus<br/>A.Y. 2020-2021: An Eye Opener. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical<br/>Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite June 2021. Adviser; Evelyn M. Del<br/>Mundo, PhD.<br/>The study was conducted at Cavite State University - Main Campus, College of Nursing,<br/>Department of Medical Technology from September 2020 to May 2022. It aimed to determine<br/>the lived experiences of 3"^ year Medical Technology students who are working while studying<br/>in Cavite State University - Main Campus. Specifically, it aimed to. determine the needs of<br/>participants to work and study at the same time; determine the struggles of working<br/>participants while studying; and determine the adaptation capabilities of working participants in<br/>handling the struggles they experienced. The study utilized an interpretative<br/>phenomenological qualitative research design which summarized the lived experiences of the<br/>eight (8) working 3"^ year Medical Technology students. In this study, the phenomenon were<br/>the working Medical Technology students and their lived experiences which their needs,<br/>struggles, and adaptation capabilities was determined in terms of as they verbalized during<br/>the interview. An online semi-structured interview was used to explore working students. This<br/>was done using virtual platforms zoom such as google meet and since face-to-face Interview<br/>was not allowed due to the pandemic. The verbatim of the eight (8) working 3"^ year Medical<br/>were transcribed, and analyzed using an interpretative the experiences of Technology<br/>students phenomenological approach until saturation of themes was achieved. Data analysis<br/>revealed the needs of working Medical Technology students such as financial. Informational,<br/>support system, psychological, time, and material needs for them to be able to work and study<br/>at the same time. Moreover, as they started getting a job, several struggles were experienced<br/>by them such as conflict in time, academic, physical, and mental health, social relationship,<br/>financial, and safety in employment that affect their life while working and studying at the same<br/>time. Nevertheless, they used different adaptation capabilities to cope with the struggles they<br/>experienced. Majority of working Medical Technology students used positive way of adaptation<br/>such as time management, motivation, relaxation and recreation, social support, religiosity, and<br/>tolerance. Meanwhile, only few working students used negative ways of adaptation such as<br/>over activity, avoidance, and emotional release. The results of this study served as an eye<br/>opener for everyone, most especially to the higher education institutions. Therefore, it is<br/>recommended to determine ways on how to improve the learning strategies and address the<br/>mental, psychological, and social concerns and education needs of working Medical<br/>Technology students. |
