Summary, etc. CAISIP, IRMA DE SILOS, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, Philippines, April 1997, “Organic and Inorganic Amendments on the Growth and Yield of Peanut under Saline Soils”. Dr. Julio G. Alava, Adviser.

This study was conducted at a farmer’s field at Barangay Talisay, Calatagan, Batangas from October 1996 to January 1997. The study was conducted primarily to determine the effects of the different organic and inorganic amendments on the growth and yield of peanut planted under the coastal saline soil of Batangas.

The field, approximately 640 square meters, was prepared thoroughly using a native plow. The experimental area was laid out at random following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications and cight treatments. The different treatments were as follows: T1 - Control ( no soil matter amendment), T 2 - Sugarcane bagasse ( 2 tons/hectare), T 3 - Trichoderma-induced compost (2 tons/ha), T4 - Complete fertilizer (14-14- 14 at 200 kg/ha), TS - Urea fertilizer (46-0-0 at 100 kg/ha), T 6 - 200 kg/ha Trichoderma-induced compost + 100 kg/ha Complete fertilizer (14-14-14), T7 - 200 kg/ha of Sugarcane bagasse + 50 kg/ha Urea (46-0-0), T8 - 200 kg/ha Suger bagasse + 200 kg/ha compost.

The parameters evaluated were the percentage germination, height at maturity, days from flowering to maturity, days from planting to maturity, weight of dry matter at different stages, number of pods, seed dry weight, number of marketable and non-marketable pods, total dry matter and harvest index.

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed significant differences among the treatments for all the characters evaluated. Results showed that application of 200 kg/ha Trichoderma-induced compost + 100 kg/ha Complete fertiizer (14-14-14) significantly increased the dry weight (gm /sq m) of stems, leaves and roots of peanut both at flowering and maturity stages, the number of marketable and non-marketable pods and the total number of pods per square meter. Similarly, average dry weight of pods and seeds was also observed on Treatment 6 (200 kg/ha Trichoderma- induced compost + 100 kg/ha Complete fertilizer (14-14-14)} aside from producing the highest total dry matter production per square meter.
