ABALLA, CHRISTINE T. Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices on Tick-borne Diseases and Tick Preventives Among Dog Owners in Imus, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Dr. Nelson J. Montialto.

The increasing number of stray dogs and popularity of pet ownership in the Philippines all contribute to the survival of Rhipicephalus sanguineus, an arthropod that transmits vector-borne pathogens to both humans and animals. Despite the availability of preventive products in the market and more specifically in the veterinary clinics, tick infestation and tick-borne diseases remains to be a common problem among dog owners. In this study, the knowledge, attitude, and practices when it comes to tick-borne diseases and tick preventives were assessed using a literature-based questionnaire. A total of 350 dog owners from Imus, Cavite participated in the study. The study found out that seventy-two (72) percent of respondents had a high level of knowledge about ticks and tick-borne diseases. However, the results showed that some of the respondents had less knowledge regarding the diseases transmitted by ticks and the manifestations associated with tick-borne infection. The results also revealed that the respondents had a very positive attitude towards the use of tick preventives and highly acceptable practices towards tick control and prevention of tick-borne diseases. To lower the risk of tick-borne infection, the importance of client education on ticks, tick- borne diseases, and providing tick preventive products for their dogs must be emphasized.

|
