Summary, etc. APOR, IVIE S., CORCUERA, REIGN YSABEL, RASONABLE, MICHELLE B., YGAR, MAYBELLE M., Sustaining Food Security amidst COVID-19 Pandemic in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. August 2022. Adviser: Dr. Elizabeth E. Polinga.

Food security happens when all the people are can and able to acquire enough nutritional food to match their everyday nutritional needs and can attain a healthy life. Yet over the years, there are many challenges a number of people faces when meeting their food security. The aim of this study was to show the situation of household food security in Dasmariñas City before and during the pandemic in terms of the Dasmariñenos point of view. The study also determined the socio-economic profiles of the participant to know who are the ones that were mostly affected by the pandemic, and one of the research objectives also to bring policies that can be helpful for the Dasmariñas awareness if there is another unprecedented event that might disturb the food security in the future. The study was conducted through an online survey using Google forms and distributed to the residents that occupied the residential areas around Dasmariñas City. The survey consisted of self-administered questionnaires, distributed randomly among the participants. The study used descriptive-comparative research to determine the similarity between the two main variables, which are the food security and the COVID- 19 pandemic, and if there is a direct effect on the security of food in the household during the pandemic. There were 384 participants in the study, and the results show that the overall mean results in the availability of food in the Dasmariñas market before the pandemic is 4.29 but decreased during the pandemic with an overall score of 3.95. For the household’s accessibility to buy food, resulted in a 4.37 score, it also decreased during the pandemic giving it an overall 3.97 mean. For the household’s food utilization before, overall results say that it is on the 4.19 mean and reduced to 3.92 during the pandemic. Lastly, the household’s stability in food consumption is in the 4.16 mean before pandemic and 3.79 mean during the pandemic. A t-test for dependent samples was used to compare the means of security and its factors during and before pandemic. It shows that the Dasmariñas households food security; availability, accessibility, utilization, and stability, before the pandemic are higher in the positive note than the households food security during the pandemic. Results show that during the pandemic, there is a medium effect on the households’ food security. At the end of the study, the researchers proposed what local governments should be doing if a certain emergency circumstance happens, that might affect the food sustainability of its people (e.g. pandemic). The researchers also recommends on those who wants to further broaden the study look and compare if secondary data for food security can have a different outcome that perception-based results.
