CRUCENA, PAMELA P. and PEREY, ROWENA S. Conrado De Quiros' There's the Rub COLUMN and the Promotion of Philippine Nationalism, Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Major in Journalism, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2003. Adviser: Ms. Michelle M. Valerio.<br/>The study analyzed a total of 15 articles in which three out of 5 issues of Conrado De Quiros' There’s the Rub column dated December 30, 2002, to January 31, 2003 were selected to identify which articles promoted Philippine Nationalism as represented in Art. Il, Sections 1 to 28 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, and their extent of promotion.<br/>Content analysis was used to gather the necessary data. The 1987 Philippine Constitution (Art. Il, Sections 1 to 28) was used as reference for Philippine Nationalism.<br/>Results showed that Philippine Nationalism is promoted in the 15 out of 25 There’s The Rub articles.<br/>The 16 sections under Art. Il (Of the 1987 Philippine Constitution which represent<br/>Philippine Nationalism) were promoted based on the number of articles published: the Philippines is a democratic and republican State; the State shall give priority to education, science and technology, arts, culture, and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism; the prime duty of the Government is to serve and protect the people; the State shall pursue an independent foreign policy; the State shall promote social justice in all phases of national development; the Philippines renounces war as an instrument of national policy; civilian authority is, at all times, supreme over the military; the State values the dignity of every human person and guarantees full respect for human rights; the State recognizes the vital role of communication and information in nation-building, the State shall maintain honesty and integrity in the public service; the State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building; the separation of Church and State shall be inviolable; the State shall promote a just and dynamic social order; the State shall encourage non-governmental, community-based, or sectoral organizations that promote the welfare of the nation; the State adopts and implements a policy of full public disclosure of all its transactions involving public interest.<br/>It is recommended that Conrado De Quiros' There’s the Rub should publish more articles that promote Philippine Nationalism as represented by Art. Il, Sections 1 to 28 particularly the others contained in the 1987 Philippine Constitution but were not promoted.<br/> |
