INTIA, KRISTINE ANN S., JAYOMANA, ERECA S., JUNTURA, DYANE L. Assessment on the Perceived Parental Style, Disciplinary Techniques and Health Outcomes among Adolescents in Selected Barangays of Tanza, Cavite. Undergraduate thesis Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2012, Adviser: Mrs. Evelyn M. Del Mundo

The study entitled Assessment on the Perceived Parental Style, Disciplinary Techniques and Health Outcomes aimed to assess the different perceived parental styles and disciplinary techniques and health outcomes to adolescents in selected barangays in Tanza, Cavite. The demographic profile of the respondents, and their perceived parental style, disciplinary techniques and health outcomes were identified to relate to each other.

Questionnaires served as the main data gathering tool in the study. A total of 150 adolescents whose age falls between 13-19 years old were the respondents of the study. Descriptive-correlation research was utilized. Moreover, purposive sampling was used to determine the respondents.

Analysis of data using the frequency distribution, percentage, mean, chi square and Spearman rank correlation coefficient methods revealed that perceived parental style
does not affect their perceived parental disciplinary technique. Meanwhile, perceived parental styles and disciplinary techniques affect the health outcomes of the respondents.

Among the demographic profile only the father’s educational attainment has a relationship with the perceived parental styles, disciplinary techniques and health outcomes among the adolescents.

Results revealed that majority of the adolescents were 15-16 years of age, high school students has a family monthly income of 10, 000 pesos and below.

Most of the respondents perceived their parents ‘style as neglectful. On the other hand, almost half of the respondents perceived that their parents use withdrawal of love as a medium for discipline followed by power assertion and induction consecutively. The respondents perceived themselves having high as sociable, mentally and physically healthy.
|
