JOY MAUREN T. NULUD “Gender Role Differentiation Among Self-owned Canteen in Selected Lowland Towns of Cavite”. Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2012. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino.<br/><br/>Generally, the study was conducted to determine the gender role differentiation among self-owned canteen in selected lowland towns of Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: describe the socio-economic characteristics of canteen owners and their household; describe the productive, reproductive and community activities of canteen owners and their household; describe the access and control over resources and benefits of canteen owners and household members; determine the time allocation of canteen owners and household members to the different activities; identify the problems encountered by canteen owners and household members in the performance of the different activities; and identify policy recommendation that will improve the status of the canteen business.<br/><br/>The study was conducted in the selected lowland towns of Cavite, namely: Cavite City, Imus, Bacoor, Carmona, and Dasmarifias. Data were obtained through personal interviews with of 140 canteen owners using structured questionnaire. Data on the time allocation to the different activities was obtained using focus group approach. Data were analyzed using frequency count, mean, percentage, range and through ranking.<br/><br/>Results identified that most of the male and female canteen owners had an average age of 46 years, married, attained high school level of education, belonged to the catholic religious group, had canteen as major source of income, and had an average monthly income of PhP14,129. Most of the male and female canteen owners had an average of seven years in operating the canteen, had an initial average capital of hP21,621 and offered lunch and snack.<br/><br/>The reproductive and community activities were mostly done by mothers, while fathers played an important role in the productive activities. The mothers dominated the fathers on access on kitchen utensils, labour, income, canteen credit and home-based resources. Likewise, mothers dominated fathers on the on the management and control over resources and benefits.<br/><br/> |
