Summary, etc. PELLO, KATHRINE V. SELF IMAGE AND SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT OF YOUNG PARENTS FROM SELECTED BARANGAYS IN INDANG, CAVITE.Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2012. Thesis Adviser: Mr. Renato T. Agdalpen.

This study aimed to: (1) determine the self image of young parent respondents in Indang, Cavite in terms of a. competence, b. positive values, c. social acceptance; (2) determine the level of social adjustment of young parent respondents in Indang, Cavite in terms of a. spouse, b. in-laws, c. child/children, d. community, and (3) determine the significant relationship between self image and social adjustment of the respondents.

This study used a descriptive-correlational method to describe and relate the variables under study. The respondents of this study were the young parents from selected barangays in Indang, Cavite. This study used purposive sampling technique in determining the respondents which resulted to the total of 112 samples.

This study revealed that the self image is very positive to the young parents from the selected barangays in Indang, Cavite. Young parents have a very high self image in terms of competence, positive values and social acceptance. It indicates that although the respondents become parents at young age, and have difficulties in their lives of being a parent, they still maintain with their positive outlook in their lives. It also revealed that respondents have a very high social adjustment in terms of spouse, in-laws, child/children and community. This means that they always feel that the society likes them and mingles with them in a good way.

Becoming a parent is not always easy. Young parents believe that they can do many things in relation to their environment, especially, when it comes to the things that they need to cope with. But young parents cannot do it if they have no companion of
others. They see their self-image at the same time they can communicate normally with the people around them, whom they need to mingle with. It simply means, although young parents face different problems, there were many times that they see themselves as good person and remain close with others in a systematic manner.

This study revealed that there is a significant relationship of self-image and social adjustment of the respondents.
