Summary, etc. ALANO, CLARISSE JOY Q., Eggplant (Solanum Melongena) Production<br/>Enterprise Using Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ). Entrepreneurial Development Project. Bachelor of Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Crop Production. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite, July 2022. Adviser: Dr. Venus O. Saz.<br/>This Entrepreneurial Development Project was conducted in Mr. and Mrs.<br/>Fransisco and Reneth Bilefia's area in Banaba Cerca Indang, Cavite from December 2021 to April 2022. It aimed to apply the knowledge and skills of the student entrepreneur learned from Agriculture Production courses. Moreover, the project was intended to enhance the knowledge and skills of the student entrepreneur from production to marketing of eggplant using Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ).<br/>The project was laid out in 300 m2 with 10 plots having a size of 1 m width x 16meter length. The eggplant was planted in two rows per plot with 0.5 m x 0.5 m spacing and has a total number of 640 plants. The project was operated as a single/ individual type of business.<br/>Pre-production activities include purchasing of seeds and other materials, like fertilizers, seedling tray and preparation of FPJ, land preparation, installation of plastic mulch, basal application, and application of Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), seed sowing, watering, transplanting, weeding and pesticide application.<br/>During production, the student- entrepreneurs observed that it was not easy to cultivate and manage eggplant production planted on a 300 m2 piece of land. The area was first cleared using bolo and rake and cultivated manually. The seedlings of eggplant were transplanted directly in the plot with a planting distance of 0.5 m x 0.5 m between hills and rows. Watering was done twice-a-day (7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.) in this project using a water can. An amount of 2.5 g of urea (46-0-0) was applied during vegetative stage of the eggplants. Similar amount of 2.5 g of muriate of potash (0-0-60) was applied during the flowering and fruiting stage of the eggplant. Then 5 g of complete fertilizer (14-14-14) was applied in all stages of eggplant. Urea, muriate of<br/>vi<br/>potash and complete fertilizer were applied once every other week using a side dressing method. On the other hand, FPJ was applied during the interval of urea, muriate of potash and complete fertilizer. The FPJ was diluted with a ratio of 10 ml to a liter of water. Once properly mixed, the FPJ solution was drenched at the plat base (approximately 100 ml) or 1 full sardine can once a day every morning. Every week, the amount of FPJ increased by 10 ml to cope with the needs of the plants.<br/>Removal of weeds was done by hand pulling to limit the nutrients and sunlight competition to the eggplants. Pruning was done once every month using pruning shears to create a proper leaf canopy development and disease prevention. However, commercial chemical insecticide was also used for proper pest management in this project following the proper and safety precautions.<br/>Harvesting of eggplant was conducted 60 days after transplanting. The weight per fruit ranged from 70 g to 100 g. Sorting and packing were done right after harvest.<br/>The wholesale price of eggplant was P60.00/kg to contact buyers in Indang, Cavite. Retailing was also practiced in selling harvested eggplant packed in one half kilo per plastic sold at 930.00.<br/>The operational cost for the entire five-month period of eggplant production enterprise amounted to P19,737.75. Total sales amounted to 922,960.00 with a realized profit of with a Return of Investment (ROI) of 16.33 percent.
