Indang, Cavite. November 2009. Adviser: Ms. Iluminada Hernandez.<br/><br/>A study was conducted to describe the socio-economic characteristics of beauty salon owners; describe the characteristics of beauty salon; describe the marketing practices used in the business; determine the profitability of beauty salon; determine the relationship between profit and some selected variables; and identify the problems encountered by the respondents in selected towns of Cavite.<br/> <br/>One hundred beauty salon owners were the respondents of the study. Data were gathered through personal interviews with the respondents. The analysis and presentation of data were done through the use of descriptive tools, such as: frequency count, mean, percentage, range and ranking. Profitability ratio was used to determine the profitability of beauty salon and chi-square test was used to determine the relationship between profit and the selected variables.<br/><br/>The respondents had an average age of 37.5, most of them were female, single and reached college level. The years in operation of beauty salons ranged from 1 - 24 with an average of 4.64 years. The average capital of the beauty salon amounted to PhP 124,550.10. The beauty salon operated from 8-15 hours daily with an average of 13 hours.<br/><br/>The services offered by beauty salons were categorized into three, which include: face and facial treatment, hair and hair treatment, and body and foot treatment. The basic pricing method was cost based pricing. Discounts, poster, tarpaulin, gift checks and word-of-mouth were used in promoting the beauty salon. The beauty salons generated an annual income of PhP891,724.36 with net profit margin of 20 percent. The initial capital, form of ownership and average discount rates were found to be significantly related to profit. The most common problem encountered by beauty salon was in dealing with difficult customers which caused them to transfer to other beauty salon. |
