Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2011. Adviser: Nenita B. Panaligan, RN, MAN<br/><br/>The study entitled Parent-Child Relationship as Affected by Computer Game Addiction was conducted to identify the profiles of the respondents in terms of age, gender, educational attainment, socio-economic status, number of years married, religion and civil status; identify the profile of the respondent’s children in terms of age, gender, educational level and daily allowance; to determine the type of computer games were the children exposed to; identify the degree of addiction of the children; determine the existing relationship between the parent and child in terms of interpersonal relationship and communication; determine the relationship between the type of computer games the children are playing and the degree of relationship between the parent and child; and determine the relationship between the child’s level of addiction to the relationship between the parent and child in terms of, interpersonal relationship and communication.<br/><br/>Survey and personal interviews with 140 parents in selected barangays in Trece Martires City, Cavite are conducted.<br/><br/>Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, mean range, percentage distribution and Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient were used to answer the objectives of the study. The results indicated that most of our respondents belonged to the age group of 36— 40 years old. Most of them are female, high school graduate and has a monthly family income of Php10, 001 to Php15, 000. Most of the respondents belonged to a nuclear family; most of them are married for 11 — 20 years and are Roman Catholic. In terms of the respondents’ children, most of them are 17 years of age and are male, most of the children are in the high school level, and have daily allowance of Php1.00 — Php 50.00 and Php 51.00 — Php 100.00. Majority of the children are exposed to the role playing genre of computer game, and has a duration of 3 — 6 hours and as frequent as 3 — 4 times a week.<br/><br/>Survey shows that majorities (52.1%) of the respondents’ children are somewhat addicted to computer games. On the other hand, majority of the respondents (58.6%) results that they have a close parent-child relationship. Meanwhile, majority of the respondents (46.4%) resulted to a very good communication between the parent and child.<br/><br/>Results also revealed that there was a negligible relationship between the type of computer game and the existing parent-child interpersonal relationship. Also, there was negligible relationship between the children’s degree of addiction to the existing parent-child interpersonal relationship. There was also negligible relationship between the children’s degree of addiction the parent-child communication. |
