"The current challenge of the modern zoology is the re-integration of zoological disciplines and simultaneously taking advantage of a broader approach to the holistic study of animal life. The term zoology in this study means the branch of biology that studies the animal Kingdom, including the structure, embryology, evolution, classification, habits, and distribution of all animals and their interaction with the biotic and abiotic environment. Zoology is the study of animals, a complex discipline that draws upon a diverse body of scientific observation and theory. It can be broken down into numerous sub-disciplines: ornithology (the study of birds). primatology (the study of primates), ichthyology (the study of fish), and entomology (the study of insects), to name a few. As a whole, zoology encompasses a fascinating and important body of knowledge that enables us to better understand animals, wildlife, our environment, and ourselves. The importance of basic zoology even then cannot be ignored as most teachers and researchers rightly felled the need for a strong base in general zoology as a pre-requisite for all aspects of modern specialization."--Back cover |
